This prime-time television special hosted by Soledad O’Brien, brings together presidential candidates (Kamala Harris and Corey Booker) and members of the Congressional Black Caucus Karen Bass and Val Demmings) to discuss mass incarceration and reform with students from HBCU’s, black activists, and the formerly incarcerated in D.C.
The one-hour special highlights the stark racial disparities that plague America’s criminal justice system with produced video packages on the school-to-prison pipeline, the for profit cash-bail system, parole & probation, and over 50% recidivism rate for the formerly incarcerated. In America there are currently over 2 million people locked up in jail or prison and more than 4 million under correctional supervision.
